Squad news: Lakay and Theron arrive ahead of the new season

Preparations for Hope FC's first season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship are moving quickly, and the squad that won a national title is being reinforced with proven quality.

Experienced wingers Lyle Lakay and Brandon Theron have both signed, adding PSL know-how to a group already built around emerging talent such as forward Tauric Gamildien, a recent South Africa U-23 call-up. Theron arrives with a career that includes Lamontville Golden Arrows, one of several new faces as the club retools for life a division higher.

There has also been change on the touchline. Dylan Deane, who guided Hope FC to promotion, has left the club, and Mark Kapman has been appointed head coach for the 2026/27 season. The technical department continues to draw on the experience of former Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United defender Clayton Daniels.

It is a deliberate approach from a club that has moved decisively at every stage of its short life: acquire a status, win a national title, and now build a squad capable of competing in professional football.
